The Nettlely Portman

Food Day Canada is right around the corner. This Saturday, August 4th, Fogo Island Inn will be joining restaurants across the country to celebrate our nation's diverse food and culinary culture. Fogo Island's traditional outport cuisine is inspired by ingredients harvested from the Island’s peaty soils, foraged from the salt-sprayed shoreline and wild-berry patches, fished from local waters, and raised and hunted regionally. Guests will have the chance to sample a special Food Day Canada menu prepared by Executive Chef Jonathan Gushue and the Inn's culinary team this Saturday, or join in on the fun at home and recreate this cocktail inspired by the Island's wild foods.

The Nettlely Portman

1 1/2 oz. Seaweed Gin from the Newfoundland Distillery Co.

1 oz. nettle syrup

3/4 oz. lime juice

3 drops of Angostura

1/4 oz. Chartreuse

Shake into a gimlet glass, and garnish with edible wildflowers foraged on the hills of Fogo Island.
