A New Kind of New Year's Eve featuring Kevin Hearn and Hugh Marsh

This year, guests of Fogo Island Inn will be celebrating a new kind of New Year’s Eve with an evening of festivities that includes poetry, song, exquisite dining, Acadian Sturgeon caviar, and a special performance by celebrated guest musicians: electric violinist and composer Hugh Marsh, and singer-songwriter Kevin Hearn.

Though a pianist at heart, Hearn may be best known as the multi-instrumentalist from the band, Barenaked Ladies, who he has played with since 1995. In April of 2018, the group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Hearn has been a regular songwriting contributor to the band over the years. He has also contributed his artwork, most notably on their Juno Award-winning children’s record, Snacktime! Along with his longtime band, Thinbuckle, he has also released seven solo records, most recently the critically-acclaimed Days In Frames.

One of Hearn’s closest musical relationships was with the late, great Lou Reed, for whom Hearn acted as keyboardist and touring musical director from 2007 up until Reed’s passing in 2013. In 2017, Hearn helped Gord Downie bring his Secret Path project to the live stage, acting as keyboardist and musical director. He has collaborated and/or recorded with many artists including his cousin Harland Williams, Garth Hudson, Laurie Anderson, The Rheostatics, Carole Pope, Ron Sexsmith, and The Tragically Hip.

Most recently, Hearn has recorded and performed with The Violent Femmes, and scored the upcoming documentary film about Norval Morrisseau and art fraud entitled There Are No Fakes, along with violinist Hugh Marsh. The two will be reuniting at Fogo Island Inn for a New Year’s Eve performance on December 31st.
