Race Weekend Returns to Fogo Island
Fogo Island’s untamed wilderness has over 200 km of paths, routes, and trails, fit to conquer by hikers, runners, and walkers alike that sometimes feel like another world. On Saturday, September 15, 2018, the third annual Fogo Island Race Weekend returns, hosting a 10K run/walk, a half marathon (21.1 km), and a full marathon (42.2 km) at one of the four corners of the Earth. Whether runners are native to the island or just looking to cross Fogo Island off their bucket list, Race Weekend offers the chance for all to see the island from a new perspective.
The marathon will start at 9am at Man-of -War Cove and runs across the island to the Tilting Firehall. The half marathon and 10k both commence at 11am; the half marathon starts between the Island Harbour intersection and the United Church on Seldom Road, and the 10k starts at Scoff (formerly Nicole’s Café) on the North Side of Joe Batts Arm. Runners can park at the finish line at the Fire Hall in Tilting, and a bus will be available to take them to the start lines before the race.
All runners that cross the finish line will receive a participant medal made of locally hand-painted slate rock, with the top male and female runners in each race to receive a prize. A reception with snacks and a presentation will take place near the finish line in Tilting.
Due to availability of accommodations on the Island and the ferry schedule, there will be a cap of 200 runners for the 10k, 100 for the half marathon, and 50 for the marathon.
Runners can register at the link below until August 25th, as well as find more information on fees, race kit pickup, and other useful details in the lead-up to the event here:
