The Art of Walking Upright

Fogo Island Inn, Nomadic School of Wonder, and Frontier invite you to join us for an “adventure in awe,” weaving together nature, art, community, and play.

The Art of Walking Upright (December 7-12, 2018), is a five-night, six-day gathering and deep immersion into the community of Fogo Island. Together, we’ll explore a more natural, essential way of being, living and belonging in a place you can’t quite believe but always hoped existed.

Co-host for this adventure is Zita Cobb, who along with her two brothers Alan and Anthony, founded Shorefast, dedicated to building cultural and economic resilience on Fogo Island.

Guests will learn how Fogo Islanders have been able to hold on to a way of life by “finding new ways with old things.” They’ll experience a boil-up, walk over 420-million-year-old rock, fly handmade kites, explore the natural wonders and modern architecture of Fogo Island, share meals, stories, song, and a jig or two.

Join Community Hosts, guest artists, storytellers, boat builders, foragers, architects, quiltmakers, musicians, and other wondermakers for this sensory journey into the cultural past, present, and future of Fogo Island.
