Guests of Fogo Island Inn will celebrate Canada Day and Canada 150 on July 1, 2017 by visiting Little Fogo Islands. Weather permitting, guests may board the Ketanja at Government Wharf with departures at 9:30 am and 2:30 pm, and embark on a boat tour to neighbouring Little Fogo Islands. Host to a unique variety of birds and wildlife, it is also the site of the historic St Anne’s Church, a well-preserved mission church built 150 years ago by local craftsmen and carpenters of all denominations. Alternately, nature hikes to Joe Batt’s Point will leave the Inn at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm and provide the perfect opportunity to explore Fogo Island by foot. The nature hikes culminate in a visit to The Great Auk. This bronze sculpture was created by artist Todd McGrain in remembrance of a time when these now-extinct flightless birds inhabited the nearby Funk Islands.
The Canada Day evening will bring guests together back at the Inn with a rooftop gathering on the West Deck for a fireworks display and a rousing rendition of ‘O Canada’. To book, please call: 709-658-3444 or toll free in North America at 1-855-268-9277 or email [email protected]
