How to get to Fogo Island

Fogo Island Inn sits on an island off the north-east coast of Newfoundland. From land to sea, we’re here to guide you to our shores. 

Get to Gander

Gander International Airport, the inspiration behind the Tony-award winning musical Come from Away, is your gateway to Fogo Island
Travellers can connect to Gander (YQX) by flying via select Canadian, U.S. and international airports. Domestic flights arrive here daily from:
  • Toronto (seasonal, 2h 55min.)
  • Montreal (seasonal, 2h 20min.)
  • Halifax (year-round, 1h 40min.)
  • St. John’s (year-round, 45 min.)
Seasonal direct flights also connect the U.S. and Europe to the region:
  • New York to Halifax (2h 10min.)
  • Boston to Halifax (1h 40min.)
  • London to St. John’s (5h 40min.)
  • Frankfurt to Halifax (7h 10min.)
  • Paris to St. John's (6h 5min.)

Travel to our island

Your journey will include:
  • A one-hour drive through lush landscapes and coastal towns to Farewell ferry terminal.
  • A 45-minute ferry to Fogo Island. Admire the rocky islands that dot the Hamilton Sound and, if you’re lucky, icebergs, whales, and sea birds.
You can choose from the following travel options:
  • Round-trip, chauffeured shuttle from/to Gander ($1,100; 1-4 people)
  • Rent a car from Gander or St. John’s : see directions and the ferry schedule
  • Fly directly to the Fogo Island airstrip (CDY3) via charter plane or helicopter

Go your own way

For a more private and unique experience, a small airstrip on the island makes it easy to access by charter plane or helicopter. You can fly directly to the island from your destination of choice, or take a charter plane from St. John’s, Gander, or Deer Lake, once you’ve reached Newfoundland via commercial flight.
