City Breaks

Connecting flights to the province let you stop in some of Canada’s most famous cities: Toronto, Ontario; Montreal, Quebec; Halifax, Nova Scotia. Discover their cultural, culinary, and historical highlights before retreating to Fogo Island Inn.

From Gander to Fogo Island

Flying to Gander might be the quickest way to Fogo Island, but even that journey can be prolonged. Veer off the main road to make your way to Twillingate. If the season is right, its location along Iceberg Alley treats visitors to spectacular sights.

Another can’t-miss spot on the way to Fogo Island is Boyd’s Cove Beothuk Interpretation Centre, an insightful and immersive place to learn about the Indigenous people who lived in Newfoundland.

St. John’s & the Avalon Peninsula

Certain travellers might prefer to fly to St. John’s instead of Gander. Beyond its iconic colourful houses, the provincial capital charms with historic sites, pubs vibrating to traditional music, and cutting-edge dining options.

It’s enough to fill three days or more, especially if you’re road-tripping to the scenic stand-outs of the Avalon Peninsula: Cape Spear Lighthouse, Ferryland, and the whale-watching destinations of Bay Bulls and Witless Bay.

Between St. John’s & Farewell

It’s a straightforward drive from St. John’s to Farewell Ferry Terminal, your last stop on the mainland before Fogo Island. Plan a few detours to explore the scenic way. With its coastal trails and postcard-perfect towns, the Bonavista Peninsula is especially worth your time. Dine in Bonavista, tour Trinity, and hike to puffin viewing sites around Elliston

Gros Morne National Park & the West Coast

When looking at flights to Newfoundland and Labrador, there’s a third choice to consider: Deer Lake (YVZ), the airport on Newfoundland’s west coast. It’s the closest to one of the province’s most iconic destinations: Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park welcomes visitors to explore its ancient landscapes, freshwater fjords, and rocky summits.

Travel beyond the park, along Newfoundland’s northern tip, and reach L’Anse aux Meadows, a thousand-year-old Norse settlement.
