Deep Connection: Natural History and Photography Immersion with Fogo Island Inn’s Guest Expert Dennis Minty
Fogo Island Inn kicks off the 2019 Visiting Expert series with acclaimed naturalist and photographer Dennis Minty, May 22-25, 2019. “Something magical happens outside in good light with a camera. I connect with a place by making images of it. Beyond the picture, it helps me see and enjoy and live more deeply,” Dennis says. Experience that magic first-hand – and sharpen your photography skills along the way– while immersing yourself in the wild, richly diverse, natural landscapes of Fogo Island. For three days this Spring Season, apprentice yourself to Dennis in the deep arts of seeing, knowing, and reflecting in this singular place. Soak your images in enchanted, liminal light with sunrise photo shoots in serene Tilting or ocean-swept Oliver’s Cove, and sunset forays around your home base, the award-winning Fogo Island Inn. Experiment with perspectives on a hike up rugged Brimstone Head, one of the four corners of the Earth, and poke around ponds and marshes as you traipse along the winding Lion’s Den trail. Dennis will complement your outdoor explorations with discussions of the island’s ecology and natural history, tips on developing your artistic eye, and one-on-one help with your photography technique. Mealtimes and evenings are for revelling in the delights of the Inn, from the contemporary art gallery to the rooftop hot tubs and the globally renowned table of Executive Chef Jonathan Gushue.
