A Tawse Winery Toast to Fogo Island Inn’s 6th Birthday
On May 15, 2019, Fogo Island Inn will raise a toast in the true spirit of Newfoundland hospitality to the many guests welcomed through its doors over the years. Community is at the heart of everything that happens at Fogo Island Inn. Upon opening on May 15, 2013, every household on Fogo Island and Change Islands was sent an invitation to be among the first guests to spend the night at the Inn. Since this time, Fogo Island Inn has gone on to host to visitors from all over the world, including special invited guest chefs and winemakers.
The Inn's drive to provide enriching travel experiences through deep cultural immersion amidst otherworldly landscapes will prove no exception during its sixth birthday celebrations, as guest winemaker Paul Pender of Tawse Winery arrives to help fête the occasion.
Situated on the lower slopes of the Niagara Escarpment, Tawse is a family-owned winery which has been voted Canada's Winery of the Year in 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2016. Tawse takes great care in their certified Organic and Biodynamic Vineyards, combining traditional winemaking techniques with state-of-the-art technology to create terroir-driven wines of elegance, depth and character. Paul Pender joined the Tawse team in 2005 and became head winemaker in 2006. Under his leadership, Tawse achieved Ecocert organic and Demeter biodynamic certification, and Paul earned the title of Winemaker of the Year at the Ontario Wine Awards in 2011. He adopts a “non-interventionist as far as possible” philosophy and is a firm believer in crafting wines that express a sense of place.
Paul will help kick off Fogo Island Inn's birthday celebrations with a welcome reception meet-and-greet in the Lounge over sparkling and canapés, and a special Birthday Supper featuring wine pairings and by the glass offerings from Tawse Winery.
