Partnerships

People we make things with

Everything at Fogo Island Inn begins with place. The partnerships described here are with people who understand that, whose practices are rooted in how things are made, where they come from, and why that matters.

Ernst Hupel, Design Strategist

Ernst Hupel has become part of Fogo Island’s fabric as a trusted advisor, creative force, and passionate ambassador. An interior designer for over 30 years, and principal of his own firm 2H Interior Design, Ernst’s story with Fogo Island began when he joined the Inn’s original design team, helping shape its distinctive character and bring its spaces to life.

His influence touches nearly every corner of Shorefast’s work: from housing and heritage restorations to product development, merchandising, events, and the ever-evolving interiors of the Inn. Over the years, he has also cultivated lasting partnerships with like-minded collaborating, including the partners listed below.

Interior atrium lounge with two sculptural olive-green sofas featuring angular backrests, accented with patterned red-and-white cushions, alongside a red armchair, wooden side tables, and a wall hung with three textile panels in blue, black-and-white, and neutral patterns.

Man of Parts

Some of the more contemporary furniture throughout the Inn came through our long-standing relationship with Stephan Weishaupt and his design destination Man of Parts. Founded in Toronto, Man of Parts works with some of the most thoughtful furniture makers and interior designers in the world, and brings the same regard for craft and considered making that we do.

A room featuring wallpaper illustrated by Donna Wilson for Christopher Farr Cloth, with a repeating black-and-white pattern of houses, boats, and animals in wreath medallions, alongside a black bench with a coral cushion and patterned pillows, a wooden side table, and a colorful geometric-striped quilted textile hanging on the wall.

Christopher Farr Cloth

London-based Christopher Farr Cloth has transformed four original designs, created to embellish the walls of Fogo Island Inn, into a collection of textiles and wallpapers. Renowned for its commitment to culture, craftsmanship, and ethical design, Christopher Farr Cloth’s Fogo Island Collection pays homage to traditional ways while infusing a contemporary and colourful touch.

Obasan

Obasan makes certified organic mattresses, handcrafted in Canada using wool, cotton, and latex. The mattresses in your room were made to specifications developed with the Inn, with every detail considered: the organic materials, the way each mattress responds and adapts to the body, and the quality of rest that results. Every element was chosen with the understanding that genuinely restorative sleep is not incidental to your stay. It is part of it.

Rosehill Wine Cellars

Rosehill Wine Cellars is Canada’s leading wine storage and service expert. Driven by the belief that fine wines should be collected, preserved, and celebrated, Rosehill designed a very special custom cellar just off the bar, in harmony with the Fogo Island Inn’s design and atmosphere.
