Digital Detox Retreat & Writing Workshop
Spring on Fogo Island spurs mindful quietude. Join us in April to power down your everyday during our Digital Detox Retreat.
This flexible itinerary is designed to refresh your perspective. Enjoy the tranquility of your room, curl up in our Library with your favourite book, or write your own story, inspired by the season of renewal on Fogo Island.
Balance quiet moments with movement. Practice morning yoga and wander along trails leading to the island's wild heart. Find peace among the forest as you lie in a hammock.
We promise no wakeup calls — only the sounds of the sea and the natural world beyond.
From April 24 to 26, writer Jennifer McGuire will be on island to lead a Workshop for the Writing-Curious.

Jennifer McGuire, Workshop for the Writing-Curious
Canadian author Jennifer McGuire hosts a relaxed weekend for non-professional writers who are looking to unlock their memories and explore their own story through all of life's stages. Jennifer’s writing career began with a weekly column in the Owen Sound Sun Times nearly 20 years ago. Since those early days writing about her life as a single mom of four little boys, she has written about life and travel for major publications like Good Housekeeping, Oprah magazine, the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, and more. Most recently, she was shortlisted for the 2025 CBC Nonfiction prize for her story The First Apartment. Her memoir, Nest, was released in 2021 and has sold thousands of copies across Canada, the United States, and Europe. For the past 15 years, she has been leading memoir-writing workshops across Ontario at libraries, bookstores, universities, and at her home in a little log cabin in Walter's Falls.
