About Us

Fogo Island Inn is a community-centred social business

Fogo Island Inn is an initiative of Shorefast, a registered Canadian charity dedicated to helping to secure a resilient economic future for Fogo Island, Change Islands, and similar rural communities worldwide. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and are grateful for the opportunity to host guests and welcome employees of myriad cultural, national and faith identities; across the spectrum of gender identities and expressions and sexual orientations; and with diverse abilities.

We endeavour to create an overtly welcoming and accessible environment. In that spirit, we respect the diverse identities and contributions of each of our team members and our guests at the Inn and are committed to upholding their fundamental rights to feel safe and valued. We are working actively to address imbalances for historically excluded communities through training, promotion opportunities and mentorship.

On Fogo Island, we respectfully acknowledge the land on which we gather and work as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, whose culture has been lost forever as a result of colonization. We also acknowledge the province of Newfoundland & Labrador as the ancestral homelands of many diverse populations of Indigenous peoples, including Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit.

We commit to using our platforms to encourage a reverence for Indigenous peoples and their knowledge, and to strive for truth and healing as we move forward together on a journey towards peace and collective prosperity.
