Community Quilt Hang Out Winner Revealed
Earlier this month, Fogo Islanders’ creativity, heritage, and artistry were on full display for all to see when Fogo Island Inn hosted its first ever community quilt hang out day. In celebration of the rich tradition of textile-making on the island, on Sunday, May 6th residents of Fogo Island were invited to hang their favourite quilts out on a clothesline and snap a photo of them flapping in the breeze for a chance to win a one-night stay at the Inn. This past weekend, the Inn’s architect, Todd Saunders, was in residence and had the honour of drawing the name of our winning submission….
Congratulations, Gail Penton!
We received a remarkable number of photographs of quilts in all patterns and colours, crafted by our wonderfully talented community members and their families, passed on through generations, shared, and cherished. We’d also like to thank our friends from away who joined in on the fun, sending us images of Newfoundland quilts on journeys as far as Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, and even the UK. Images of our community quilt submissions can be viewed on the Inn’s Facebook page, and more quilting activities and itineraries at Fogo Island Inn can be explored here.
Thank you to all our community members and friends from away who took part, and we’re looking forward to seeing what beautiful designs come out to help harken in Spring next year.
