The Icebergs are Coming

Spring has sprung along iceberg alley, which means one thing: The icebergs are coming.

Recent aerial imaging suggests that there are over 2000 miles of ice extending into the Arctic, as seen in this remarkable Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from NASA. With the promise of icebergs just offshore, Fogo Islanders eagerly await the arrival of these 10,000-year-old ice giants.

From the earliest days in April to the waning days of June, it is possible to catch a glimpse of the dramatic freshwater mountains as they drift past the Island, encircled by seabirds and whales. The icebergs are on the move and, with a strong Northeast wind, they are sure to make an imminent appearance. Click here to find out how you can see them at Fogo Island Inn.
