Our All-Inclusive Hospitality

At Fogo Island Inn, we have an international reputation for exceptional, place-specific hospitality. We designed a stay to be inclusive of a complete hospitality experience.

This means our rates are inclusive of all meals (alcohol excepted), land-based excursions and hikes, and full use of the Inn's amenities. There are no hidden costs, no resort fees, no charges for room service, laundry or on-island transportation. Any requests within our power to deliver will be met with a smile and without extra charge: bicycles, snacks, extra toiletries, and any support or guidance before, during, or after your trip are all on offer.

And none of that awkward tipping: our team participates in a revenue sharing plan.

Your Room is Your Refuge

Each of our 29 rooms were designed to carry forward the richness of outport traditions in concert with the very best contemporary design elements.

Our guest rooms and suites boast floor-to-ceiling windows and spectacular ocean views; natural wood floors with radiant in-floor heating; custom designed, locally crafted furniture and textiles; and exceptional soundproofing. Room amenities also include sustainably made robes and slippers, books from local authors, and an array of creature comforts all provided with resting in mind.

Community Immersion

Our Community Host Program matches a person from our community with guests of the Inn to help orient them to the island. Our Community Hosts are passionate, lifelong Fogo Islanders who are happy to offer their insights into the island’s natural and cultural heritage. They have fished the island’s waters, picked its berries, climbed its rocks, and walked its trails countless times over.

Our hosts guide you through the particularities of each of our seasons. Activities led by Community Hosts includes a range of indoor and outdoor cultural, marine, natural, and artistic forays. Your stay with us includes a customized Island Orientation with a host, as well as a personalized itinerary.

We often say Fogo Islanders are genetically predisposed to exceptional hospitality; and time spent with someone intimately familiar with our history and culture allows you to truly be able to feel this place and understand how everything fits together.

Dining: Where Nature & Culture Meet

Absolutely all meals you will have on the island (even elsewhere in the community) are included in your room rate: a welcome snack, daybreak service, breakfast, lunch, supper, tea room treats, lunches for hikes, a departure lunch pack, and all non-alcoholic beverages - including all the cappuccinos you desire!

At Fogo Island Inn, our menu expresses our local foodways, which are an integral part of this place's fabric. The offerings change across the seasons. As we’re a hard-scrabble place, we frequently use time as an ingredient through bottling, pickling, and fermentation techniques.

We aim for 80 percent of our ingredients to come from Fogo Island and the surrounding region, and we operate with regenerative practices and a zero-waste mission. As a Shorefast community business, we support local entrepreneurs and suppliers. We take pride in our culture and nature and invest operating surpluses from our businesses in community development.

Reconnection with Nature

Our Outdoor Adventure team, led by Lorie Penton, are poised to orient guests to Fogo Island’s seasons and its subarctic, see-it-to-believe-it landscape. Here, hikes are right at your doorstep, with dozens of well-worn trails within walking and short driving distance of the Inn. We provide any hiking essentials (water bottles, poles, and cleets), along with weather gear (jackest, weatherproof pants, backpacks, mitts, hats.)

From foraging for edible plants to hiking coastlines usually only frequented by wildlife, most guided land-based excursions are included in your room rate. We invite you to opt into any activities available to you – we know you will find yourself in awe of a natural world you can only begin to fathom.

Comfort within the Inn

Fogo Island Inn and our amenities offer relaxation and disconnection in spades: from the comforts of our guest rooms to the Heritage Library, sauna and hot tubs located on our rooftop deck, and Cinema, there are plenty of places to simply “be.”

“Where the Money Goes”

While many luxury properties have a charitable arm, our charity has a luxury property. Fogo Island Inn was founded by Shorefast, a registered Canadian charity that is unleashing the power of place for local communities to thrive in the global economy.

Shorefast has pioneered an Economic Nutrition certification mark that shows where the money goes. For the Inn, it indicates the percentage of gross revenue allocated to our team – employee salary, bonuses, benefits, and related costs; food and room supplies; operation and administrative fees; and sales, marketing, and commissions.

This certification mark also shows where in the world your money goes, highlighting the percentage of funds that are distributed on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Canada, and then elsewhere in the world.
