Cod: The Backbone of our Island

September 13-16, 2024

Cod is intricately intertwined in Newfoundland’s rich historical and cultural tapestry. The settlers of Ireland and England came here for cod and they stayed here for cod. Join us as we pay homage to our history and celebrate all things cod.

Engage in enlightening culinary experiences and historical workshops that will unravel the intricate relationship between Fogo Islanders and this mighty fish. Seize the chance to partake in the time-honoured tradition of handlining cod and with any luck, feast on your own catch – a truly immersive and unforgettable celebration of Newfoundland’s maritime legacy.
