An Outport Easter

Spring on Fogo Island is a time of excitement and renewal, and is the ideal time to encounter all of Fogo Island’s distinctive weather moods. Fishermen are gearing up for the busy fishing season, shells lie abandoned on the rocks after waiting out the Winter imprisoned in ice, and the occasional North Atlantic gale still blows over the island.

This is the perfect time to celebrate Easter at Fogo Island Inn. Pull off your snow boots and replace them with hiking boots. In the company of a Community Host, discover the rich 400-year-old history of this “Salty Narnia,” its wildlife, people and culture. Enjoy a short but challenging climb up to Brimstone Head, one of the four corners of the flat Earth. Spend some time cozied up in your room with a wood fire and a good book. Enjoy a sauna, and a dip in our roof top hot tubs or simply enjoy special Easter cocktails in our Lounge with treats that only the Easter Bunny can dream up.

The full board Outport Easter package begins at $1,575 per night, exclusive of taxes, is based on two persons (solo travellers deduct $200 per night-family suites also available) and includes: all meals, an island orientation with a community host, a coastal hike to the Great Auk, a Sunday Easter egg hunt and two signature cocktails.

DAY 1 - FRIDAY APRIL 14, 2017

Arrive on Fogo Island and let the island start to reveal itself on the 30-minute drive through outport communities as you make your way home to your spring refuge, Fogo Island Inn. This Easter, take time to make time.

Check into Fogo Island Inn; a traditional yet contemporary masterpiece of modern architecture and design. The Inn has been recently recognized as part of Telegraph Travel’s Greatest 50 hotels in the world 2016.

Our welcoming staff will orient you to your suite, which is a front row seat to one of the wildest and most powerful oceans in the world. Breathe out, unwind, for you have arrived at a place of emotional freedom and unmediated connections to the natural world.

Cocktail Hour

Even though it will be difficult to leave your sumptuous, soulful suite, do tear yourself away to join us at the cocktail hour. In the lounge, Easter cocktails are shaken or stirred over iceberg ice.

6pm to 9 pm

Good Friday Seafood Supper is served in our dining room; named among the top 3 “Best New Restaurants of Canada” by enRoute magazine. Enjoy the abundant offerings of the Labrador Current while the waves of the Atlantic crash along shore just beyond your table setting. Dine at your leisure.

Late Evening

Join local musicians in the Lounge for songs and stories and tall tales of courage, victory and loss.

Wake Up

Wake up and meet the day with a special little surprise just outside your door. Our daybreak box features tea/coffee and pastries.

Meet your Community Host in the lobby for your Island Orientation. Be prepared for fresh perspectives and insights; stories and laughter during your half-day outing. Allow yourself to be oriented to this “Salty Narnia” by the people of the place - who have retained their 400 year-old heritage; whose sense of self comes from deep historical ties to landscape and seascape; people who are profoundly at home on this “edge of the known.”

12 pm to 2 pm

Dinner (lunch) is served at your leisure in the Dining Room.

Relax at the Inn next to a wood-burning fireplace with hot chocolate (or something stronger). Time to rest body and soul.

Step inside our state-of-the-art Cinema for a video screening presenting the Inn’s beginnings and an overview of Shorefast Initiatives on Fogo Island.

6pm to 9pm

Supper at your leisure in the Dining Room.

Late Evening

Cozy up to a wood-burning fire in the Lounge or in your suite, watch a movie in our Cinema, or unwind in the roof top saunas and outdoor hot tubs under a star-filled sky on the edge of a moonlit North Atlantic Ocean.

DAY 3 - SUNDAY APRIL 16, 2017

Wake Up

Enjoy your daybreak box in your room. Linger.

An indoor Easter-egg-hunt throughout the Inn’s public spaces will have guests “on the hop,” scouring every nook and cranny of the Inn. Look out for other edible Easter surprises, made possible only by the Easter Bunny.

12 pm to 2 pm

Dinner (lunch) is served at your leisure in the Dining Room.

Embrace the wind and sea by embarking on a guided hiking adventure along the coastline toward Joe Batt’s Point. Walk past the solitary, off-the-grid Long Studio, designed by architect Todd Saunders, which hovers on a series of stilts that lifts the structure above the ground to frame a spectacular view of the North Atlantic Ocean. Fogo Island brings out the walker in us, so allow time to carry on past the Long Studio along the coast to pay homage to the Great Auk-a flightless bird that once lived on the nearby Funk Islands. Head back to the Inn and curl up in the cosy library with a good book.

Traditional family supper as determined by our kitchen collective
